High tech. High touch.
Both monikers apply equally well to the Republic of Estonia. World famous Skype software was developed in this small country on the coast of the Baltic sea in northern Europe, and it was the first country to use the Internet to conduct organized elections. Estonia is also among the most wired countries in the world, with WiFi coverage besting that of the most highly developed countries around the globe.
That’s the tech. Now the touch – as in natural beauty and unspoiled natural splendor. Estonia has more than 1,200 lakes and incorporates more than 1,500 islands. While most of the islands are small and uninhabited, they are valuable to hundreds of bird species that call them home. Of course, plenty of people live in stunning Estonia too – many of them in the capital city of Tallinn. This ancient city has a place in the UNESCO World Heritage Register and boasts a staggering mix of “Gothic and Baroque, knights castles and monasteries, Orthodox sanctuaries and medieval buildings, all living in perfect harmony.” (1) Our tours will give you a glimpse into Estonia’s fascinating history, even as you indulge in charming market fairs and seasonal celebrations. And for everyone’s to do list: savor a delicious glass of crisp wine or beer from a hotel rooftop at sunset. Capture it on your iPhone for the perfect Instagram from this high-tech town, or simply close your eyes and let it settle into your memory. It’s a view – and country – you won’t soon forget.
